  We have a difference in philosophy. If you are talking about a haiku or a sonnet in poetry, or a waltz in music I would be more inclined to agree. The nature of joke telling is misdirection or doing something unexpected. For example the Nazi knock knock joke is great, but technically it breaks the format. I would also point to norm macdonalds moth joke as an example , it should just be setup punch line , the thing that makes it funny is the 3 minute deviation

  I know he didn’t choose it, it happened anyway, that’s the point . I won’t die on this hill, clearly it isn’t being taken as intended , if you have to explain the joke it didn’t work.
